Stationary
Reservation NOTAM ~ 12-21-07
- In recent years, you can now get an electronic version of the FSS briefing
by using DUATS. The briefing is, "a legal pre-flight briefing, with the
same standing as a briefing I'd get by calling Flight Service." Between
DUATS and ADDS you can see what and where the weather is and where it's
going and when and print it out. In a recent DUATS printout I noticed a
bunch of NOTAMS that read something like: Boston Center issued by Central
Alt Res Fac CA [CARF]... that included longitude and latitude coordinates.
My first thoughts were, what's a "stationary reservation" and can I fly
through one. So, I went to the experts and called FSS. When I asked
the briefer about it he said, "One moment please..." and after a minute
or two on hold, he came back and said it's military reserved airspace and
it's recommended not to fly though it. Hmmm... so I plotted the location
on Google and it turned out to be a moot issue [click

airspace.
I
did a search in the AIM and found the phrase "altitude reservation" under
the "Restricted Airspace" section.
Here's
an excerpt from the FAA web page. I highlighted the interesting phrase
on the example:
6-2-4.
