The Collings Foundation’s Vought F4U Corsair is back at Skyhaven airport for the summer. The corsair was a carrier-capable fighter aircraft that saw service primarily in World War II and the Korean War. The Corsair was built from 1940 to 1953 and only a few are still flying. This one will be in the air show at Pease on June 30 and July 1.

From the first prototype delivery to the U.S. Navy in 1940, to final delivery in 1953 to the French, 12,571 F4U Corsairs were manufactured by Vought, in 16 separate models, in the longest production run of any piston-engined fighter in U.S. history (1942–1953).
As well as being an outstanding fighter, the Corsair proved to be an excellent fighter-bomber, serving almost exclusively in the latter role throughout the Korean War and during the French colonial wars in Indochina and Algeria.

The Collings Foundation is a non-profit educational foundation devoted to supporting living history events to encourage learning by participation. Flying a fleet of The Collings Foundation dedicates itself to preserving the machines that helped build the world and helped keep it free; displaying these machines to honor those who were influenced by them; and to educate future generations about them.

Dan McCue is the pilot of the corsair. He learned to fly at Skyhaven and has spent time at the airport from when he was 13 years old. Dan has flown many different aircraft, but has enjoyed flying the Collings Foundation Corsair in airshows around the county for several years now.

If your lucky, you will get a peek of this beautiful aircraft when it is outside on the taxiways or taken off.
