EAA 225 is holding a December meeting at the Skyhaven Pilot’s Lounge this
coming Tuesday evening December 11, 2018.
Cockpit
Café at the Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport 12-06-18:
It all started last year
Dec 2017 when the Cafe's 10 year lease ran out. The owner Renee Bernier
who has been running that cafe for 30 years was told by the city and airport
committee of changes she has to make (that she clams would drive her out
of business in three months). This year it seems that the airport authority
could not reach a new agreement for the expiring lease on the restaurant.

The Airline Industry seems to be busy, active, making money and introducing
new aircraft for future air travel. Here's an excerpts from Assembly Magazine:
"The first 777X introduced will be the 777-9 model, which can seat 400
to 425 passengers in a standard configuration and offer a range of 7,600
nautical miles. Its first flight is scheduled for 2019, with the plane
expected to enter service in 2020,. The 777x is 252 feet long, making it
the longest passenger jet that Boeing has ever produced. The twin-engine
jet is also the first to feature folding wingtips, which, when extended

SOLID
STATE Propulsion? 11-22-18:
MIT has released information about an aircraft experiment that uses ion
propulsion for thrust. Now scientist have talked about ion thrust engines
in spacecraft but the MIT professor has designed a special wing that is
outfitted with an ion generator that creates an airflow between positive
ions and an negative airfoil receiver that causes propulsion. They
say that the ions are a positive charge that flow to the negative charged
receiver and causes air movement creating thrust.

DRONES
- HOW TO BUY AND FLY 11-18-18:
I recently received an email from Mark Sheehan from a website called "My
Drone Authority, a blog that covers the drone industry and teaches people
about these crazy contraptions. It’s a massive 10,000-word guide for people
interested in camera drones. I worked on it for over 40 hours in an attempt
to make it one of the best guides on the web for budding aerial photographers
and videographers." The data he has collected on drones is nothing short
of amazing. Here's a link to his drone blog. CLICK

Abstract
Art or Creative Collage?11-11-18:
AOPA magazine has an addendum called "Briefing"
with special emphasis on various topics. The cover is a departure from
the normal AOPA "check out this picture" presentation that resorted to
a collage that borderlines an abstract collection of aviation products.
Can you say "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds?" The article sub-title says
"Aviation Clubs You Might Not Want To Join" is actually a tag line to tell
you all about pilots who have received special medals for surviving various
types or crashes and mishaps... yikes! The club that caught my attention
was the "Lucky Bastard Club." To be a member, you had to be a B-17 or B-24
pilot who survived more than 25 missions. "There were a total of 12,732
B-17's that were produced between 1935 and May 1945. Of these 4,735 were
lost in combat." "More than 115,382 crew members were killed during
WWII on missions involving these aircraft.
The
population or Rochester is 30,000.

Uber
Advertising Flying Taxis for the City 10-28-18:
According to Avweb, "Eric Allison, of Uber Elevate, told the opening session
at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA-BACE) convention in
Orlando that the next logical step in urban transportation is to take advantage
of the “three-dimensional growth” of urban areas." "Allison said the technology
and computing power is now in place to make whisking three or four people
a few miles across town convenient and safe." Autonomous air taxi with
no pilot? Looks like four passengers and no pilot. Here's
a link to an article that makes some interesting observations about the
program. CLICK HERE

Aerion
First Flight Set For 2023 10-15-18:
Another supersonic jet is coming. This time for the elite business men.
Fly to Europe in the morning, have a meeting and lunch, then fly back to
the states for dinner. "Aerion Corporation says it will fly its AS2 supersonic
business jet in 2023 and will do its first transatlantic flight with the
aircraft on October 24 of that year, the 20th anniversary of the last commercial
flight of the Concorde supersonic airliner.

Boeing
Reveals Concept For Future Attack Helicopter 10-15-18:
A refuelable military
attack helicopter? This
attack helicopter sounds more like an A10 with the ability to land on a
rock on the edge of a mountain. "WASHINGTON—Officials from Boeing have
revealed details of a concept for a new future attack helicopter it is
showcasing at the Association of the United States Army’s annual conference
here this week. Defence Blog reports that the revised attack variant of
the helicopter is designed to destroy tanks, armoured and non-armoured
ground targets, and enemy troops and helicopters both on the front line
and in tactical reserves." (article

For
Sale 1975 Cessna 172M $179,000! 10-10-18:
Recent articles and editorials have mentioned the increase demand for vintage
Skyhawks has driven the prices up a few thousand dollars. Instead of paying
$50,000 for a 172m you might be paying $59,000. That seems to be the tip
of the iceberg. The need for an aircraft to fill the gap between the $50,000
and the new $300,000 Skyhawks has spawn a new category of Skyhawk. Skyhawks
are showing up on
Trade-a-Plane selling
for over $100,000. According to Wiki there were 7,306 172m models made
and it apparently has been targeted for this new market of refurbished
aircraft. New radios and state of the art digital instruments exceeding
the $60,000 for just the radio equipment alone are setting the aircrafts
to be an alternative to buying a new aircraft for over $300,000.
Or, you could buy
something like this:
Get um while they
last... once they are gone the only thing that will be left will be clunkers

SUPERSONIC
FLIGHT COMING IN 2023! 9-30-18
"Three years from
now, a new supersonic
plane will soar through the skies over the Mojave Desert of California.
The aircraft is NASA's newest X-plane: the X-59. The experimental jet,
also known as the QueSST (Quiet Supersonic Transport), is currently under
development by Lockheed Martin." According to several magazine editorials
NASA and Lockheed have found a way to muffle the bang from the sound barrier
to a few thumps that people won't find offensive or distracting. The first
test flight is scheduled for 2021 at Edwards AFB and the first test flight
over California population is schedule for 2023.
