in the shop the Zenith awaits my attention, I’ve had a bit of time to work
on the ol’girl over the Summer. As projects wrap up outside she will get
some more attention. This last month I’ve got the cowling in place and
have some clecos holding it there. I’ve decided to use the method Van’s

see you guys soon, look out for the nasty wx headed our way! -Todd Scruton"

Russia's
working on a low-observable, F-35-hunting unmanned air vehicle? 11-06-19:
Russia says the UAV has been designed to detect stealth aircraft
in the same vein as China’s ambitious “Divine Eagle” project, which he
claims is based on technology “borrowed” from Russia and the USA. "Such
aircraft aim to detect low-observable
US combat aircraft using X-band and UHF radars, specifically the Lockheed
Martin F-22 and F-35 and Northrop Grumman B-2. But airborne surveillance
is just one of the UAV’s capabilities." It also has "deeply-integrated
electronic warfare system that not only provides a protective electromagnetic
sphere around the aircraft to counter air-to-air missiles, but also cloaks
it from radars." Is Russia working with the Klingons? While the military
are working on electronic warfare UAV's NASA is working with Russia in
Kazakhstan to ferry astronauts to the ISS. I thought the cold war was over?

Announces Emergency Autoland 11-02-19:
News articles are showing up all over the internet about the auto-pilot
feature just released by Garmin. They call it "Emergency Autoland." After
looking at some of the articles and videos it looks like the "Emergency"
part of the system is just the introduction phase. The AOPA video looks
like routine auto-pilot until the actual landing and coming to a complete
stop without any pilot intervention. It automatically crabbed for cross
wind and corrected on touchdown and steered on the runway centerline...

NASA's
Mars Helicopter Attached to Mars 2020 Rover 10-31-19:
NASA is getting ready to take an RC controlled helicopter to Mars. They
expect to do this in 2021. I wonder what the Wright Brothers would have
to say about that? "The Wright Brothers
flew the first airplane
at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, but they built it in Dayton," said NASA
Administrator Jim Bridenstine. "The Mars Helicopter, destined to be the
first aircraft to fly on another world, was built in Pasadena, California.
Joined now to the 2020 rover, it is yet another example of how NASA's Artemis
generation is expanding humanity's reach in our solar system." more...

Rhode
Island National Guard cancels 2019 air show
10-27-19: All the news about the Quonset Naval Air Station in Rhode Island
disappears after November 2018 with announcements about the famous air
show canceled for 2019. This year seems to be the year of unusual events
and I'm sure this one disappointed a few people. Last November it was reported,
"The guard said it anticipates that too many troops will be deployed next
year to put on the air show, which is one of the biggest events of the
summer. Hundreds of key National Guard members will be called to federal
duty overseas in support of the RING's primary mission of national defense."
"The air show benefits Hasbro Children's Hospital, as well as several other
organizations. It's raised $1.5 million for the hospital since the air
show began more than 25 years ago, garnering about $75,000 last year alone."

IN OCTOBER 10-20-19:
The sky is blue and the wind is light and variable. Great combination to
take a flight at Skyhaven Airport. Here's a video taken from the Skyhaven
Flying Club Cessna Skyhawk. It was just recently updated with a new instrument
panel with state-of-the-art electronics which includes an autopilot that
monitors the aircraft attitude even when it's not engaged. So if you want
to practice steep turns and stalls you need to turn off that feature.

SWEEPSTAKES FOR 2020 10-19-19:
The new Grand Prize for the AOPA sweepstakes for 2020 will be a brand new
refurbished RV-10. Now this is an airplane I could easily get used to.
Although it cruises at 165 KTS (190 mph) they say it can go into short
field runways, but recommend 3,000 ft. Below is a sample of the AOPA paperwork
with stickers and posters and mailing envelopes.

Young Eagle Flight Rally Changed to 10-13-19 at Skyhaven Airport
10-11-19:
Hello
Everyone, EAA 225 has decided to move our last EAA Young
Eagle Rally from Saturday morning to Sunday morning. The weather is expected
to have a higher chance for low cloud ceilings (way too low for flying
kids) and as well as rain or mist on Saturday 12 Oct. According to
weather forecasters everything shutting us down for Saturday is expected
to clear up later on Saturday and be much better with higher ceilings with
better visibility for Sunday. Thanks in advance to all that we’re planning
on attending the activity on Saturday. And If you are able to help
on Sunday please reply to this email so I can confirm your helping out.
Regards, Gerry EAA 225 Young Eagle Coordinator

will wrap up another successful year of getting young ones in the sky to

Young Eagle Flight Rally on 10/12/19 at Skyhaven Airport
10-5-19: Hello Everyone,
Just
a friendly reminder to let you all know that
next Saturday at Skyhaven Airport we will be holding our 4th and last EAA
Young Eagle Flight Rally as a group for 2019. We’ve had an interesting
year and hope to go out with another
good showing. I will be making up a newsletter, but between the pilots
from the Rochester and Biddeford Chapters the pilots flew 40 kids on our
3rd outing in Sanford this past September. To the members, I am asking
for volunteer pilots and ground help. We are planning a Pancake Breakfast
at Skyhaven so we will have hot food available. If you can come over and
fly some kids, please reply so I can add you to our EAA Pilot list.
If you would like to help on the ground, also please reply so I can put
on on that list. It helps with these events when members help out.
That you in advance, and I hope to see whomever can lend a hand.
Members can just stop by for the breakfast and fellowship, as the proceeds
helps fund our aviation scholarship! Regards, Gerry
(Young
Eagle Coordinator)

Launch From Kazakhstan 9-27-19:
Here's a popular picture being circulated around the web that unfortunately
doesn't give any scientific information about the unusual trail that the
rocket left leaving the atmosphere. "NASA astronaut Christina Koch tweeted
an image yesterday (Sept. 25) that she captured of a Soyuz capsule, which
took off from Kazakhstan carrying astronauts from the US, Russia and the
first one from the United Arab Emirates. The American passenger aboard
Soyuz 61 was Jessica Meir, who trained with Koch."

Young Eagle Flight Rally on 9/14/19 in Sanford at Southern Maine Aviation
8-30-19: Hello Everyone, Hope everyone enjoyed their summers and a break
between the EAA Young Eagle
Rallies. Aviation is alive and well in the northeast with upcoming
area events and Greenville just over a week away. Its been since the beginning
of June since we all got together for the Young Eagle events and I am just
sending out this reminder that we are holding our 3rd of 4 EAA Young Eagle
Flight Rallies in Sanford, Maine on September 14, Saturday
morning from 9 am to 12 noon. (The 4th and final rally will be in
Rochester at Skyhaven Airport on Saturday, October 12 also from 9am to
12 noon. We are looking for volunteer pilots and ground personnel
to help with our efforts in Sanford.) The Sanford, Maine event is
advertised at the airport, on the EAA Calendar and Young Eagle websites.
Walk-in registration is still the standard way to do so, but Pre-registration
is open online at: yeday.org and there are two sessions in which to do
so, with a limit to the number of applicants. Per EAA requirements, either
a parent or guardian must be present on the day of the flight. As
usual the event is open to kids age 8 to 17. EAA 225 will be holding a
strategy meeting (the evening of Tuesday, Sep 3 at Rochester’s Skyhaven
Pilot Lounge actual time still getting ironed out), since it’ll have been
over two and half months since our last event. If you have any questions,
please reply. Regards, Gerry EAA 225/1210 YEC
