The "D" Notam ~ CLICK HERE to enlarge to a printable PDF file4-5-08 -  The FAA has recently changed the way NOTAMS are organized. They now use what they call a key word system. If you use DUATS (I think DUATS is great), and you happen to look at the NOTAMS section, you either noticed a change, or found it a little confusing. In the old system, once you found Rochester DAW Skyhaven, all the notams on DAW were listed in one paragraph. Now, to make it easier the notams have been split up in different categories where DAW might be listed in a half a dozen different notam headings... hmmmm. There's also a graphic for the new "D" notam. Click on it to enlarge to a printable PDF file. AOPA says, "Pilots who prefer the previous way CSC DUATS organized notams can call the company at 800/345-3828 to have their account changed back to the original format."

Fate Of Biddeford Airport? Don't sell my airport!3-29-08 -  Since 9-11 General Aviation has been going through various levels of difficulty. After getting beatup with the subsequent tfr's GA airports are now becoming an endangered species. LittleBrook Airport is now closed to the public and AOPA told me that Jean Hardy wants to sell it to someone who's interested in keeping it an airport... Oh my! In the summer of 2006 Mike and Cheryl Hart put Hampton Airfield for sale for $2.5 million after 30 years of ownership. Now, the fate of Biddeford Airport is up for a referendum vote in November to close or keep it open. AOPA president sent a letter to the residence of Biddeford. FAA Safety Programs, Seminars, & Information 3-2-08 - Here's more FAA information from Jim Dubois for you reading pleasure. If you were going down the taxiway and you saw a flashing white light what would you do? If I was at Skyhaven, I'd key the mike three times to shut off the REIL lights, unless someone else turned them on. If you were at a class B,C,or D airport and the light came from the tower you might want to keep this handy light gun instruction card handy. To download the light gun card and see more FAA information click on the following links:

Cessna 400 Visits Skyhaven ~ 12-29-07 - CLICK HERE TO SEE PICS OF THE LANCAIR/COLUMBIA - CESSNA 400So I'm heading towards 50J to do my preflight and over at the fuel farm is a slick looking aircraft drinking up some avgas. Although nothing looked suspicious, it was definitely unusual. I thought I'd find some excuse to get close to the Lancair/Columbia 400 that was recently bought by Cessna aircraft. Former airline pilot Norm Jackson was kind enough to share a  brief conversation about the leading edge cuffs and the air brakes that are unique features to this high performance aircraft. Click on the icon to see some pics of this beautiful aircraft.

Everyone Needs IACRA ~ 12-26-07 - Have you received your postcard about "IACRA"? Winter Time at Skyhaven ~ CLICK HERE FOR WINTER PICTURES12-22-07 - Although we are having an unusual snowfall this December, that's still no excuse not to go flying. Be sure to experience the dramatic increase in performance when the air is cold and dry.

Stationary Reservation NOTAM ~ 12-21-07 - In a recent DUATS printout I noticed a bunch of NOTAMS that read something like: Boston Center issued by Central Alt Res Fac CA [CARF]... that included longitude and latitude coordinates. My first thoughts were, "what's a stationary reservation", and can I fly through one. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION.
